UptimoCheckmk

Uptimo or Checkmk?

Checkmk you run yourself, and it goes deeper. Uptimo is productive in minutes and talks to your customers.

First

What Checkmk is built for

Checkmk is full-blown infrastructure monitoring with a huge plugin catalogue, auto-discovery and decades of experience in large environments. If you must cover SNMP devices, storage systems and hundreds of service types in a tool you operate yourself, it offers depth Uptimo does not aim for.

Then

Where Uptimo works differently

Uptimo is a hosted service: sign up, install the agent, measure — no site, no server of your own, no updates. The alerting model is deliberately borrowed from Checkmk: two levels, a state machine, rules per object. What it adds is the outside view — checks from several countries and customer-facing status pages, neither core to Checkmk.

Our verdict

For a data centre full of heterogeneous hardware, with a team to run it, Checkmk is the right tool. For web services, servers and a status page your customers see — without operating monitoring infrastructure yourself — Uptimo is the shorter path.
